There is a tendency today
towards the quick and immediate. If something can not be grasped in a few
seconds it is dismissed. Many of my pieces, on the other hand, are small,
personal, even intimate pieces that exist over time. As such it is necessary
for the viewer to be patient for the pieces to reveal themselves. The Shy
Box explores this in more detail. It reacts shyly to the viewer, hesitant
to reveal itself. With this piece patience and perseverance on the part
of the viewer pay off as the piece hesitantly opens up to divulge it's contents.
Too much activity, and it will close up in self-protection, awaiting a more
opportune time to reveal itself.
